This former community garden displays a wooden gazebo at the center, which is surrounded by a small artificial lake and decorated with four statues representing the four seasons. This garden pays tribute to Florêncio Terra, born in Horta in 1858, a remarkable writer, journalist, teacher and dean of Horta’s high school.
There are several plant species in this garden, including century-old dragon trees (Dracaena draco – deemed endemic to Macaronesia) and an araucaria (Araucaria heterophylla). In the summertime, because of its beauty and landscape overview, this garden hosts recitals, concerts and other cultural events.
