The trail of the Caldeira’s perimeter presents an extension of approximately 7 km and has a medium level of difficulty, taking about 3hours and 30minutes to circulate its perimeter. It is a circular trail, beginning and ending near the Caldeira’s viewpoint.

Located as the central part of Faial Island, the Caldeira presents a diameter of about 2 km and an average depth of 400 m, being covered by exuberant Laurissilva vegetation. The Caldeira´s formation is a result of a long process, whose last event may have occurred about 1200 years ago.
