Departure/Arrival – Capelo’s Tank

This is a very pleasant trail because of its refreshing shade, waters and landscape.

Along the trail, it is possible to observe the Laurel Forest, from which we highlight the laurel, the sanguinho (frangula azorica), the Azores blueberry and the Azores Juniper.

There is also quite a variety of fern, including culcita macrocarpa, which stands out because of its reddish, thin hair once used to fill pillows.

Along the trail one can also contemplate the dried lava flow from the 1672 eruption, commonly known as “Mistérios do Capelo” (Capelo Mysteries).

Regarding fauna, one can watch several birds, mainly from the Azores, such as the blackbird, the goldcrest and the chaffinch.

In addition, one can observe the cones of Capelo’s Volcanic Complex.
