Capelinhos Volcano

A submarine eruption on September 27^th 1957 gave origin to the Capelinhos Volcano, which remained active for 13 months. With an inhospitable landscape, it is one of the most paradigmatic volcanoes in the world. It is part of Faial Nature Park and classified under Habitat/Species Management Area given its high geological, biological and landscape interest.

It is essential to visit the Information Centre in order to understand the origin and the evolution of Capelinhos Volcano, as well as the geological history of the archipelago of the Azores.
