Where to eat?

Food lovers will find on Faial Island a variety of traditional dishes, such as meat soup (Sopas do Espírito Santo), cracklings, pork sausage (linguiça) with taro, blood sausage and beef stew (molha de carne). As for fish, the most typical dishes are fish stew, grilled limpets and octopus stew in red wine. The most traditional sweet on Faial Island is called “fofas”. The French toasts, coscorões (fried rolled pastry sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon), sweet bread and bolo torrado are also very tempting, as well as the Flemish cheese, the island’s cheese and some homemade liqueurs. The municipality of Horta provides a great variety of restaurants specialized in local cuisine.
